Grado Zero
I wanted to start from the concept of Zero in portrait, to get to a self-revelation of the subject who, rather than being passively portrayed, takes actively part in the creative process. I overturn the creative concept that the photographer is the subject who acts on the passive object of the picture. This time, the objectives is the passive element, still on its tripod, only able to record the passage of time. But if zero does not exist (according to the DeSaussurian algorithm there are a signifier and signified, but Zero misses the sign, the "object" in the concept of zero), I should represent a body that is not there but that at the same time must inevitably appear, not to lose the concept of portrait itself. Here, therefore, the body is entirely hidden, though still abstractly present, its extremities helping it to emerge. There are approximately 170 meters of rope hiding a female body who reveals itself to the objective. This revelation is never totally fulfilled, in spite of the subject’s wishing it, as one side remains inevitably cut-off from the possibility of objective knowledge.
